이집트 중부도시 민야에서 이집트 콥트 기독교인을 태우고 가던 버스를 무장대원들이 무차별 총격을 가해 26일 현재 최소 28명이 숨지고 22명 가량이 부상당했다. 공격을 당한 지역은 사막길이었는데 10여명의 군인복장을 한 테러리스트들이 버스를 세우고 무차별 공격을 가했다. 일부는 자동화기로 총격을 가했던 것으로 알려졌다.
배후는 즉각 알려지지 않았지만 미국의 일부 언론에서는 ISIS가 자신들이 벌인 일이라고 주장한다는 보도를 하고 있다. 이집트에서는 지난 4월 10일 종료주일에 2곳의 교회에서 폭탄테러가 일어나 47명이 목숨을 잃은바 있다. 이로인해 이집트 대통령은 일부 지역에 국가비상사태를 선포했는데 그 와중에 또다시 이런 사건이 벌어진 것이다.
이것은 이슬람 금식월인 라마단을 하루 앞둔 시점에 일어났는데 매년 라마단을 전후해 기독교인에 대한 테러 공격을 가했던 과격 이슬람 집단이 올해에도 같은 시도를 하고 있는 것으로 보고 있다. 얼마전부터 기독교 공동체에 대한 테러가 있을지도 모른다는 소식이 들렸는데 현실이 된 것이다.

이집트 기독교인들의 기도요청:
- 희생된 가족들을 위로해 주시고 부상당한 이들이 완전히 회복되도록.
- 전체 기독교 공동체에게 위로와 격려를 부어 주시고, 이집트 교회를 보호해 주시고, 비슷한 공격으로부터 막아 주시도록.
- 이번 공격에 책임이 있는 이들을 위해. 그들을 정의로 인도하시고 그들이 행한 악한 행위를 회개할 수 있도록
- 대통령과 이집트의 권력자들이 법과 정의로 바로 서 있을 수 있도록.
Egyptian Christians request prayer for:
a. God’s comfort for those who lost loved ones, and for full recovery for the injured
b. comfort and encouragement for the wider Christian community, and for God’s protection over his church in Egypt and over other targets of similar attacks
c. for those responsible for the attack, that they will be brought to justice and will repent of the evil they have done
d. the President and all in authority in Egypt, that they will uphold justice and righteousness
28 Killed, Including Children, in Attack on Bus Carrying Coptic Christians in Egypt’s Minya
At least 28 are reported dead and 22 injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on buses carrying Coptic Christians in Egypt’s Minya, announced Egypt’s Health Ministry.
According to Coptic Church officials, the buses were carrying dozens of children and other adults to a trip to a Monastery in Minya.
A statement released by Minya’s Governor confirmed 28 people have been killed. Twenty of those killed have been identified, and eight remain unidentified.
Of the victims who have been identified, two are children. The two children include four-year-old Marfy Hany Moussa and two-year-old Moreska Mina Samuel.
Eyewitnesses speaking to private Egyptian newspaper Youm7 say multiple gunmen were involved in the attack.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi convened an emergency security meeting following the attack.
In a statement released following the attack, Egypt’s Ministry of Interior said that the gunmen surrounded the bus in three SUVs on the Western Desert road. The Ministry of Interior said that police forces were immediately deployed to the scene and surrounding areas. There is currently no information available to suggest any arrests have been made.
The attack comes only a few days after the US embassy warned of an “unspecified action” by terror groups.
Coptic Christians have been the target of a recent campaign waged by ISIS.
In April of this year, two churches were attacked by suicide bombers. The total death toll from the church bombings at Tanta’s church of St George and Alexandria’s Cathedral of St Mark’s on Palm Sunday reached 47, with many more injured.
In December 2016, another attack on a chapel connected to Cairo’s St Mark’s Cathedral killed 29 people.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the three attacks.
